Neymar jr is first Barca player to win La Liga player of month November.

Barca’s bizarre run of never having received a player of the month award in Spain has finally come to an end after Neymar jr was awarded the prize for November-15. Conspiracy theories were mounting after the star players from the club’s treble winning side were over looked month after month despite dominating La Liga last season and being top of the pile again this campaign. But finally after scoring fourteen goals in thirteen games Neymar’s November was just too good to be ignored.

Diego Costa was the first player to win the award when the Spanish League (LFP) came up with the idea in 2013 in an attempt to copy the long standing monthly prize in England. Since then 9 different clubs have been represented in the list of winners but amazing Barca had not been among them until this month. More than it being an anti-Barcelona consipiracy, sources close to the LFP said it was an attempt to show the league is about more than one team and share some of the glory. Tiny Basque club Eibar, who face Gary Neville’s Valencia at the weekend, won the award two months ago with striker Borja Baston picking up the prize for October.

Madrid minnows Rayo Vallecano have also won it and Levante, the smallest of the three clubs in the region of Valencia, have also had a winner. But Barcelona had some justification for feeling like the odd man out. Real Madrid have won the award 3 times with Cristiano Ronaldo twice and Karim Benzema once both past winners. Now Barca are finally on the board although one gong in the whole of 2015 still seems a little strange.
